SUMARAN Inc. focused on clean energy innovations for sustainable housing, buildings and communities in Canada. Led by president Mark Riley, SUMARAN Inc. and its partners conducted extensive research on cold climate air source heat pump (ASHP) systems, including experimental integrated systems capable of providing year-round domestic hot water, heating and cooling for low-energy and Net Zero Energy houses (see Featured Project). Research included assessing ways to improve the efficiency of ASHP systems, notably through the use of zoned air distribution systems and experimental methods to temper the outside air supply.
